A snowtrout of Himalayan rivers, lakes and swamps, the sattar reaches about fifty six centimetres and runs up feeder streams to spawn over gravel and sand. Its breeding stretches from May into August, with the larger fish spawning first, and it feeds on a mix of small animals and plant matter.
