A tilapia of West African coasts and estuaries, the Guinean tilapia tolerates full seawater and can even breed in very salty water. It grows to about thirty centimetres and eats almost anything, from shrimps and bivalves to plankton, detritus, algae and water plants. Prolific and adaptable, it thrives where many fish cannot.
