Psephurus gladius

Chinese Paddlefish

A huge paddle snouted fish of the Yangtze, the Chinese paddlefish reached three metres and ran upriver from the sea to spawn in spring, holding to the middle and lower layers of the great river's main channels. Dams, overfishing and habitat loss ended it, and the species is now declared extinct.
