The Pacific spadenose shark keeps to shallow inshore water and is most abundant near big freshwater outflows such as the Pearl River estuary. A small shark of around 72 centimetres, it bears live young nourished through a placenta like connection. Pressure on these inshore waters has left it near threatened.
