With its flattened, shovel shaped snout, this guitarfish spends the day buried in sand on bays, seagrass beds and estuaries, then hunts crabs, worms, clams and small fish by night. It is gregarious and nomadic, found alone or in aggregations, and bears litters of up to twenty eight pups.
