A flattened, ray like shark of the Brazilian shelf, the guitarfish ranges from the surf line out to the continental edge and grows to well over a metre. It bears live young in litters of four to twelve and eats crustaceans, squid, worms and small fish, but heavy netting has pushed it to the edge of extinction.
