Few sharks eat as broadly as this one, taking turtles, seabirds, smaller sharks and whatever scraps it finds, which has earned it a reputation as the ocean's garbage bin. It cruises shallow coastlines, estuaries and coral lagoons but ranges down past 700 metres, and at up to seven and a half metres it ranks among the largest predatory sharks. Its bite is powerful enough to demand respect from divers.
