The most common catshark along European coasts, the lesser spotted dogfish prowls sandy, gravel and muddy bottoms, mainly between 10 and 100 metres in the northeast Atlantic and far deeper in the Mediterranean. It hunts by night and lays its eggs in horny cases anchored to the seabed.
