The hammer shaped head, with eyes and nostrils set wide on the flattened lobes, gives this shark a broad sweep of senses as it scans the bottom. Scalloped hammerheads cruise coastal and open shelf waters, often forming great schools by day, and reach more than four metres. Targeted for their fins, they are now Critically Endangered.
