The broad, almost straight edged head sets this hammerhead apart, an odd shape that spreads its senses and helps it pin prey to the seabed. It feeds heavily on small sharks, skates and rays, and young fish travel north in summer in schools of hundreds. It ranges from the shallows to around 200 metres and can exceed four metres, so keep your distance.
