A slender, smooth toothed shark of the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean, the smooth hound prefers to swim near the bottom over shelves and upper slopes, though it has been caught past six hundred metres. It feeds mainly on crustaceans, with cephalopods and bony fish as well, and bears live young. Heavy fishing has left it Endangered.
