Slender and sharp snouted, this sevengill shark hunts smaller sharks, rays, squid and bony fish along outer shelves and slopes, mostly between 100 and 400 metres but reaching as deep as 1,000. It thrashes violently when caught and its flesh is toxic to eat. The IUCN rates it near threatened.
