A pinkish deep sea shark with a long flat blade of a snout, it detects prey in the dark using sensory pores spread across that snout. Its jaws shoot forward in an instant to snatch fish, octopus and crabs, then draw back against the head. It lives along outer shelves and slopes, rarely straying into shallow water, and reaches more than six metres.
