A spotted skate of the continental shelf that prefers sand and mud bottoms, it sits most commonly between about twenty and a hundred and twenty metres but reaches far deeper in the south. Juveniles stay in shallow sandy inshore ground while adults move offshore, and it reaches just over a metre across.
