A flattened ray like shark with a pointed snout and a guitar shaped outline, it glides slowly over sand and mud, often partly buried. It picks crustaceans, small fish and other bottom invertebrates from the seabed, working depths from the shoreline down to about 100 metres. Pressure from fisheries has left this once common species critically endangered.
