The shortnose spurdog lives on or near the bottom of the outer shelf and upper slope, ranging down to around 750 metres and gathering in groups sorted by sex. A small dogfish reaching about 70 centimetres, it carries spines before each dorsal fin and bears two to four live young at a time.
