This large acorn barnacle cements itself to ship hulls, pilings and rock on exposed shores, growing a ribbed shell to around 8 cm across. It thrives in the splash of the intertidal and is one of the more notorious foulers of marine structures, raking the water with feathery legs to catch plankton.
