The Adriatic sturgeon keeps to inshore seas, estuaries and large deep rivers, never venturing into pure marine water, and feeds on bottom invertebrates and small fish over sand and mud. A long lived giant reaching two metres, it has been driven to the edge of extinction by dams, pollution and overfishing.
