A long jawed pike conger armed with dagger like teeth, it hunts small fish and crustaceans over soft bottoms from the shallows down to around 800 metres. It enters estuaries and will sometimes push into fresh water. Reaching more than two metres, it is caught and even farmed for food in Japan.
