This snipe eel carries jaws drawn out into long curved beaks that never fully close, lined with tiny hooked teeth for snaring the antennae of drifting crustaceans. It lives deep in the open ocean, down to around 2,000 metres, and migrates through the water column day to night. Males and females look so different that they were once thought separate species.
