A slim, silvery midwater predator, this barracudina hangs in the open ocean from the surface down to around 2,000 metres, with the young staying shallow and adults dropping deeper. It hunts smaller fish and other prey through the dark water. Like its relatives it has a soft, scaleless body and grows to little more than half a metre.
