This lanternfish rises and falls with the day, hanging between about 225 and 650 metres in daylight and climbing to within 40 metres of the surface at night. Females settle deepest, below 450 metres, and the fish grows to only around seven centimetres. Like other lanternfishes it carries rows of light producing organs along its body.
