Tall, flat and silvery, the African moonfish hangs near the bottom over the shelf, between about 20 and 100 metres, and schools as it hunts crustaceans and small fishes. Juveniles drift at the surface near bays and river mouths, and the species sometimes enters lagoons and estuaries.
