One of the most widespread mullets in the world, found across tropical and temperate coasts and freely entering estuaries, rivers and even hypersaline lagoons. It schools over sand and mud in shallow water, grazing on tiny organisms and detritus stirred from the bottom. It can run far up rivers and reaches about a metre.
