One of the largest and fastest of all bony fish, the Atlantic bluefin grows past four metres and can warm its own muscles to hunt in cold water. It schools by size, sometimes alongside other tunas, and lives up to forty years preying on anchovies, squid and other small schooling prey. Decades of heavy fishing have left it closely watched.
