A bottom dwelling eelpout of cold northern waters, it lives at temperatures from zero to five degrees and grows larger off Greenland than off Scandinavia. It feeds on shrimps and other seafloor prey, taking bigger items as it grows, and lays large eggs of six millimetres on the sea floor.
