A small flatfish of northern European seas, the dab lies on sandy bottoms from a few metres down to about 100 metres. Both eyes sit on its right side as it ambushes crustaceans and little fishes, and it is widely sold fresh, smoked or frozen. It grows to about 40 centimetres.
