A cold water flatfish that often hunts up off the bottom rather than lying flat on it, and can be caught well into the midwater. It tolerates frigid bottom temperatures and feeds on crustaceans, capelin, redfish, eelpouts and deep sea prawns. Found from shallow water down to around 2,200 metres, it is salted, dried or sold fresh.
