Stout and short snouted, this seahorse grips holdfasts in coastal seagrass, rock and algae and can shift to green or yellow to blend with the plants around it. The male broods the young in a belly pouch, and the species ranges from the shallows down to about 60 metres. So little is known of its numbers that it is listed as data deficient.
