A heavy bodied triggerfish of reefs and grass beds, it can lock its first dorsal spine upright to wedge itself into a crevice. It feeds on bottom invertebrates and is a specialist sea urchin hunter, blowing jets of water to flip an urchin over and strike at its softer underside.
