One of the earliest fishes to cross from the Red Sea into the Mediterranean, this leatherjacket is now well established in the east. It picks small invertebrates from rocky, weedy and seagrass bottoms and reaches about 25 centimetres. Like other filefish it can lock its first dorsal spine upright.
