Named for the fine threadlike tentacles that fan out from its body, this bristleworm hides in muddy beaches and among boulders and kelp from the intertidal down to around 50 metres. The tentacles sweep the seabed and water for organic detritus, and the worm tolerates the murky outflows near estuaries.
