Wedged among fouling growth on piers and rocks or rooted in soft sediment, this tube worm spreads a wide funnel of feathery tentacles to filter food from the water. It grows to around 9 centimetres and lives from the surface down to about 180 metres, withdrawing in a flash when a shadow passes.
