Serpulid Worm

Hydroides norvegica

Serpulid Worm

This tubeworm cements a hard, twisting white tube up to about 10 centimetres long onto rock, shells, and the frames of mariculture rafts. From the opening it unfurls a crown of tentacles to strain food from the current, and it readily fouls submerged structures.
