Short-Finned Pilot Whale

Globicephala macrorhynchus

Short-Finned Pilot Whale

A deep water hunter of squid, this whale gathers in tight, gregarious pods yet peels off to chase prey alone, diving past 2,000 metres into the dark. Bulls grow to around 6 metres, and the rounded head gives the pilot whales their bluff profile.
