Virgin Salpa

Thetys vagina

Virgin Salpa

A large barrel shaped salp that tolerates colder water than most of its kind, drifting as transparent plankton in the upper hundred and fifty metres. It strains food from the water, and a rock lobster larva has been found riding inside one, feeding on its host as it travels.
