The female greater argonaut secretes a thin papery shell, not a true cephalopod shell but a brood case she builds with her arms and uses to trap a bubble of air for buoyancy. She can reach a span of around seventy centimetres while the dwarf male stays under two, one of the most lopsided size gaps in the animal world.
