Tall striped dorsal fin held like a banner, this western Atlantic drum drifts through bays, sounds and deep coral reefs down to about 60 metres. It feeds at night on small shrimps, crabs, worms and snails, and divers find it easy to approach. There are reports of ciguatera poisoning from eating it.
