Nucella lapillus

Atlantic Dogwinkle

A predatory rock snail of wave beaten shores, the Atlantic dogwinkle drills through the shells of barnacles and mussels to eat the animal inside. It clings to rocky coasts along the littoral zone, avoiding sand, mud and brackish water, and only rarely ventures down to 40 metres.
