Illex coindetii

Northern Shortfin Squid

This shortfin squid hunts through open water from the surface down to around 1,000 metres, often resting by day over muddy and sandy bottoms before rising to feed. Females outgrow the males, and like most of its kind it lives fast and dies young, spawning once before the end of a single year.
