Spiny Oyster

Spondylus spinosus

Spiny Oyster

A thorny oyster that anchors itself firmly to rock, coral, and shell debris from the intertidal into deeper water. Once cemented in place it stays put for life, filtering food from the current while its spiny valves gather their own crust of growth.
