A small scorpionfish of the western Atlantic, it comes in two colour forms tied to its surroundings: a blackish form on coral reef shallower than about 20 metres, and a yellowish form on deeper sandy ground below 30 metres. Like its relatives it is an ambush predator that sits motionless waiting for prey.
