A flatfish of shallow rocky pools and rubble bottoms, the ocellated tonguesole keeps both eyes on its left side and shuffles along the seabed by rippling the long fringe of fin around its body. It stays small, reaching about 19 centimetres, and so little is recorded of it that conservationists list it as data deficient.
