Barely longer than a thumbnail, this pygmy pipehorse clings to vertical rock walls crusted with coralline algae, sponges and turf, where its mottled body vanishes against the growth. It hangs on through the moderate swell at depths between fourteen and eighteen metres, facing channels open to the sea.
