Variable Coquina

Donax variabilis

Variable Coquina

A small wedge shaped coquina of surf swept sandy beaches, it rides the waves up and down the shore as the tide turns. It leaps from the sand to catch a passing wave, reburies in seconds, and filters phytoplankton, algae and detritus through its short siphons.
