Stout Tagelus

A long, narrow clam with a shell that gapes at both ends, the stout tagelus digs vertical burrows fifty to seventy centimetres deep in muddy sand and mud. It holds the intertidal and shallow subtidal down to about twenty four metres, common in estuaries, and draws in water to filter out suspended food.
