A slim, silvery, fast fish of warm shallow coasts, the ladyfish gathers in large schools over muddy bottoms and runs into estuaries and salty bays. It chases crustaceans and small fish, spawns out at sea, and passes through a strange ribbon shaped larval stage much like a tarpon or eel before taking its adult form.
