A small deep sea shark with rows of light producing organs scattered over its underside, helping it blend into the faint glow from above. It lives on and near outer shelves and slopes and also swims in the open ocean over very deep water, taking fish, squid, octopus and deep water shrimp. It bears live young and grows to about thirty five centimetres.
