This big conger eel hunts after dark along the western Atlantic, slipping out from rock and pier piling to take fish, shrimp and small shellfish. It reaches well over two metres, and anglers often hook it from docks and jetties without realising how large a thing is on the line. It lives from the shallows down to nearly five hundred metres.
