A pencil thin oceanic fish, the brilliant bellied barracudina lives down in the open water column, the young near the surface and adults deeper, often between four hundred and eight hundred metres. Light organs run along its silvery belly, and like other barracudinas it is a slim, fast predator of the midwater.
